2111 North Cedar Street, Holt, Michigan
Status: Still Standing
Opened: c. 1880
Architect: Unknown
One of the historic homes located near downtown Holt, it was the home and farm of Dennis and Carrie DeCamp. Dennis DeCamp (1848-1929) was a longtime resident of Holt. He was born in Eaton County, married Carrie Rice and moved to Alaiedon Township in 1879, and subsequently moved to Holt. The DeCamps built this home around 1880.
DeCamp’s Woods and DeCamp’s Grove were popular picnic and event spaces for the community, as Mr. DeCamp donated them routinely for community use. Many local barns and homes were built with trees from DeCamp’s Woods. In the very early 1900s, DeCamp platted his land and began selling lots. This development comprises the DeCamp Street, Center Street, and North Street. He also owned land across Cedar Street, which he sold off for development. The area of DeCamp’s Woods is now known as Veterans Memorial Gardens.
The home was purchased by Mearl and Opal Fluke in the 1940s, and Mearl ran his business Fluke Electrical Service from there for decades. The Flukes sold the home in 2004.
Rick Anthony, Holt High School graduate, lifelong resident, son of Lansing florist John Anthony, and longtime florist in the Lansing area, purcahsed the home and turned it into his flower shop. Rick Anthony’s Flower Shoppe had operated in Holt since 1993, but opened its final location here in 2004. Rick Anthony died in 2023 and the shop closed shortly thereafter.
The building is currently vacant.
